How to Make my Delicious Date Bread

If you love dates as much as I do… then get your flour ready because I’m going to teach you how to make date bread that is so easy yet so rich in flavour and texture. This is bread you will definitely not find on your supermarket shelves!

I love using dates in recipes and smoothies – it’s a great energy booster, increases iron, rich in various nutrients, fiber and antioxidants.

This recipe is pretty much monkey proof, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never baked before – you can definitely do this! No machinery is needed and no kneading required… if I can do it, YOU can!!

Ingredients

    • 3 cups of plain /all purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
    • 2 teaspoons of salt
    • 1 1/3 cups of warm water
    • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
    • 1.5 cups of pitted dates sliced in half
    • Baking paper
    • Oven proof pot with lid for the best results

Instructions

      • Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl: plain flour, instant yeast, salt and stir the mixture.
      • Add 1 1/3 cups of warm water and keep stirring the mixture thoroughly.
      • Add 1 cup of pitted and halved dates in the mixture.
      • Add 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix it thoroughly until you reach the proper consistency.
      • Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for 2-3 hours.
      • Dust your hands with flour to prevent the dough from sticking.
      • Place the ball shaped dough into an oven proof pot lined with baking paper and sprinkle a little amount of flour and salt flakes or any coarse salt on it.
      • Cover with lid and place into the oven at 200 C for 30 minutes.
      • After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake for a further 10 minutes until golden brown.
      • Slice it and serve.
        Tip: You can use olive oil, balsamic or butter for condiments.
